Week 3
HELLO EVERYONE!
Everything is moving along quite well. We are keeping busy visiting members and especially those members who aren't active. We have joined a crochet and knitting group. This is a pretty fun group to belong to. There are about 5-6 women who come and an older gentleman that also comes. We met at the library in New Strawn which is about 3-4 miles from here. I forgot the man's name, but he definitely keeps the conversation going. He is a wealth of knowledge of the area and the people. We found out that one of the ladies in the group is the mother of a lady in our branch. She's not a member... yet. Anyway they all seem very nice.
The other group we have joined is a genealogy group. There are only a couple of people in our Branch in this group. There were about 16 people altogether. We met in the museum here in Burlington. They talked about using "FindaGrave.com". It was kind of interesting but not too much new information was given, at least from my point of view.
One of our new duties is to inspect the apartments of the young elders and sisters. We had to go to Emporia (40 miles away) for two of the apartments and the other was here in Burlington. We didn't mind going to Emporia because that is where the nearest WalMart is. Things are pretty expensive here in Burlington so when we get a chance to go to Emporia we happily take it. The elders and sisters were expecting us so they had their apartments cleaned. We just had to go down the checklist and check off what passed inspection.
We have sat in on a couple of lessons that the Elders taught. They are such wonderful young men. They are so willing to teach and teach with the spirit. There was another set of elders in our mission who told us of their "miracle". On Wednesday they had set the baptism for a "friend" (formerly called investigator). He had forgotten to bring a towel. The elders were about 15 minutes from the time of the baptism. No one lived close enough around the chapel that they could run home and get a towel. They asked the officiator what they should do. He said just go to a house nearby and ask for a towel. That is exactly what they did. They went to the next street over and decided to knock on the door of a blue house. When the man came to the door they introduced themselves and told him that they were going to conduct a baptism but needed to borrow a towel. The man agreed to give them a towel and went and got one for them. The baptism could go on as planned. I'm sure there are more miracles that happen, but this is the one I heard of this week.
We have made several visits to Wendy. She is a new convert to the church and we are just helping her to get comfortable in our Branch. It is so nice to see her progress.
I still help out at 6:00 AM on Tuesday mornings at seminary and are still doing the Meals on Wheels on Thursdays. We have taken several meals to people and keep ourselves pretty busy most days. There is some down time but we usually are busy with visits or meetings.
My brother in law in Tonga passed away this week. My oldest son Jeffery was able to go to Tonga for the funeral. He sent quite a few videos and pictures. It was nice that he could go to represent our family. This particular brother in law had lived with us for several years and my kids all knew him quite well.
That's about all for this week! I appreciate all your letters and prayers on my behalf.
Love you all,
Sister Tuha
