Week 9-10

Hello everyone! Sorry about not writing earlier this week. We have been soooooo busy! I've been going  from 6:30  in the morning until about  9:00  in the evening every day! we have spent part of our day painting and part going out and visiting with inactives. We delivered 50 Easter treats to 50 different families active and inactive. We got doors shut in our faces and totally rejected by others. ( I feel like a real missionary now!) We also met some wonderful people! One afternoon when we were out delivering our Easter treats (consisting of scriptures for each of the last 8 days of the life of Christ before he was crucified and some candy) we met three ladies. Each of these ladies were in a crisis situation.  One was getting a divorce, the other two had health concerns. Each lady we visited seemed to just want to talk and get their problem out. We lent a listening ear and of course some encouragement to come back to church. It was quite a miracle in...

Week 8

Hello Everyone! Well, believe it or not, it's been a whole 2 months since I've been in Kansas! Things are moving along very nicely. We have been working on visiting the inactive members in our branch. We went to Falls City, about 20 miles from Hiawatha, to visit some inactive members there. We went to ten houses and only were able to find people home in three of these homes.  Some of the homes looked like no one had lived there for a very long time, but a lot of houses are like that around here. We left a little bag of candy and an Easter scripture on the door of the houses where no one was home.  At the other three houses we were able to talk to the people there. We invited them to church and one said that her and her daughter would come next week. That's progress! We'll see if they actually make it there!  We did some more painting and cleaning this week. We have the upstairs finished except for some touch up paint. We also went to an assisted living place a...

Week 7

Hi Everyone! There's not too much new this week. We're still painting.  We have one bedroom completely finished now! We have the woodwork done in the upstairs hall and another bedroom almost done. It had one wall that was a orangeish pink that will need a second coat and that bedroom will be finished. We are making progress! I gave a talk on Sunday about Coming Unto Christ. I think I did pretty well. There are about 20 members that actually come every week.  This is a very small group, but all strong members. I'm getting to know several of them. We were able to go to the temple again this last week! It's always a special place to go.  We took a member who without are help is unable to go.  We really enjoyed our trip.  It was pouring the rain most of the day, but it didn't dampen our spirits! In our companion study we have been learning about the gifts of the spirit. There are so many gifts we can try to obtain. It is through these...

Week 6

Image
A picture of the house I’m living in.  An 1890 special!   Hi Everyone! This week started out like most other weeks but it ended up soooooo different.  I got transferred to Hiawatha, Kansas! Hiawatha is about 2.5 hours north of Burlington.  Hiawatha is a nice little town.  The population is about 1000 people less than Burlington. Even though the population is less, it seems bigger because it has more businesses.  It even has a WalMart! There are a lot of smaller towns around here and apparently Hiawatha is the largest of them all.  We have a small branch here. Some members have to drive an hour to church! We, my new companion Sister Sharp, and I live in a house that was built in 1890. Needless to say it's an old house.  The owner of this house is our branch president. He is in the process of updating and remodeling the house. Most of the construction is done but painting is not. In fact, part of our mission work is to paint the inside of ...
