Week 5

Hello Everyone! Well, another week has come and gone! Time goes so fast when you're busy! This last week we went to our district meeting in Emporia. Our new DL gave us a really good example of how to pray. He said they were teaching a lady who was a smoker. She had been praying that she would quit smoking. She was still having a hard time quitting. So the missionaries said that maybe she needed to be the agent for change instead of just asking the Lord to help her quit. So she decided to tear up her cigarettes and throw them away. After doing this and continuing to ask the Lord to help her quit she was successful! She quit and never even desired to smoke again.  I loved this story because the Lord will help us if we also try to help ourselves.  One day this last week we met Doris, a lady from our branch, and her friend Evelyn for lunch. This was the first time I had eaten out at any place here in Burlington.  What was kind of unique about this lunch was that D...

Week 4

Hello Everyone! Can you believe I've been in Kansas for a month already? Time flies when you are busy! We've done a lot of the same things, visiting members and volunteering places. Yesterday was our "P" day.  We met two sets of Elders and a set of young Sisters at a pickleball court in Emporia. So we played pickleball for a couple of hours. I had played tennis and ping pong before but not pickleball.  It was really fun! I got some good exercise in and I learned the basics of pickleball.  This last week at our District meeting one Elder told of a story where the Elders decided to clean the baptismal font. They thought that if they cleaned it really well and then prayed for someone to get baptized in it that they would be blessed. You guessed it! One of their "friends" (it used to be called investigator) decided to be baptized. So this was the answer to their prayers. In Church on Sunday, we had a great discussion on reading the scriptures.  Our ...

Week 3

HELLO EVERYONE! Everything is moving along quite well. We are keeping busy visiting members and especially those members who aren't active.  We have joined a crochet and knitting group. This is a pretty fun group to belong to. There are about 5-6 women who come and an older gentleman that also comes. We met at the library in New Strawn which is about 3-4 miles from here.  I forgot the man's name, but he definitely keeps the conversation going. He is a wealth of knowledge of the area and the people.  We found out that one of the ladies in the group is the mother of a lady in our branch.  She's not a member... yet. Anyway they all seem very nice. The other group we have joined is a genealogy group. There are only a couple of people in our Branch in this group.  There were about 16 people altogether.  We met in the museum here in Burlington. They talked about using " FindaGrave.com ". It was kind of interesting but not too much new information...

Week 2

Hi Everyone! This last week we did a lot of visiting members.  We are trying to get a list of the inactive members to visit, but our branch clerk/secretary is technology challenged. He's doing his best.... The temperatures here last week were pretty warm. We had one day at 70 degrees. Then this morning I had to scrape ice off my window in order to get to Seminary  at 6:00AM . It's supposed to be in the 50's today. When I was coming home the sun was coming up. It was a beautiful sunrise! The Lord is preparing us for a great day! Today, even though it was "P" day I did a route for Meals on Wheels.  They were short on drivers and called to see if I could help. So I did. I don't mind doing this because I get to know people and I get to know the town of Burlington better. We were studying in 1st Nephi this week and came across one of my favorite scriptures. It's 1Nephi  17:13  "And I will be a light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before...
