Week 11-14

 Hi Everyone!

I've been busy! It seems that the days go so fast. We are still visiting inactives and painting. It seems there is a never ending list of people to visit and painting to do.

We had invited eight ladies from our branch to watch conference with us. Most were active but we also invited a friend and a couple of not so active sisters.  We figured the group of ladies we invited would probably not watch conference unless they were invited somewhere to watch it. Out of the eight ladies we invited, five actually came.  We figured that was a pretty good turnout!. We had made some sandwiches and had lots of cheese and crackers etc. for everyone to munch on before conference started. We will probably do this again for the next conference.

I think my favorite talk was by one of the 70's. I can't remember his name, but it was the talk about when Joseph Smith was praying in the sacred grove and the power of darkness came upon him. It was very powerful and Joseph Smith was almost ready to give up when a pillar of light appeared. When this pillar of light came the darkness disappeared.  When we are waiting for our "pillar of light" to appear, we can partake of the "rays of light" that are around us.  I think sometimes that we are wanting to feel the pillar of light so badly that we don't recognize that it is with us all the time. Maybe not as a pillar, but as a ray of light. As we keep experiencing these "rays of light" they, when all put together, can become our pillar of light. Sometimes we don't think we are feeling the spirit, when in fact we have a ray of light with us and we don't recognize it as the spirit because we are waiting for something much stronger. I'm not sure that made a lot of sense, but that's what impressed me from this talk.  What was your favorite conference talk?

For Easter we went to church and our Branch President spoke.  He gave a great talk of Christ and his resurrection. A great Easter talk.  My Companion's Daughter and son in law and grandkids were here visiting.  We made and Easter dinner very different that what I am used to.  We had egg roll in a bowl, fruit and a challah which I made. It is a Jewish bread which is braided. It was my first time making it and I think it turned out pretty good!

We had Zone Conference last week. It was in Salina which is about 3 hours from here. We got there a little late because there was an accident and we were diverted to a different route.  It was good though. My take away from our Zone Conference was how much we are loved by our Savior, but also our Mission President. He is a very inspired and kind man. While we were there, President Elliot talked to my companion and I.  He was telling us about the history of the Kansas Wichita Mission.  He said that the Hiawatha area is a very tough area.  In most of Kansas the church has grown quite a bit over the last 50 years. The only area that has not grown but gotten smaller is the Hiawatha area where we are.  I thought that was very interesting. I would like to see if I can figure out why this is true.  Anyway, I guess we have our work cut out for us. Only about 30 % of our branch is active.

That's about all for this week. I remembered to attach some pictures! Some scenery from Kansas, my companion, me and the young sisters who were just transferred from here, my challah bread and my new great Grandson!!!
