Week 52

 Our blizzard!

Hello Everyone!

Well, my first year has come and gone! Time passes so quickly! To catch you up since I've not written for a couple of weeks.New Year's Day eve we went to the assisted living center where we visit with a couple of ladies who seldon get visitors. We read 3 Nephi chapter 11 where the Savior comes to the Americas. The spirit was really strong. One of the ladies was in tears she was so moved by the scripture. We also showed them the video of Christ appearing to the people in the Americas. It is a beautiful video. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it. It's on the library app. These two ladies we visit are in the beginning stages of dementia. They don't really remember anything we read to them, but they do remember the spirit that is there when we come. They always enjoy our visits just as much as we do. We call bingo at another assisted living center. We go there at 2:00 in the afternoon. The ladies and men that are there really look forward to our coming. This day they were getting ready for their New Year's Celebration. One lady told us that they were planning to start at 3:00and pretend that 4:00 is the new year. One lady told us that they waited until 10:00 pmlast year and most everyone was sleeping by then, so they moved it up this year. A great idea! We celebrated new year's eve with the young sisters coming over and playing some card games. This lasted until 9:00 when they had to go back to their apartment. It. was pretty entertaining while it lasted. We didn't stay up much longer.

On New Year's Day, the group of sisters we do the CFM study with still wanted to have our group discussion so we did! Everyone was there and we had a great discussion. It is so good to see these ladies becoming friends and learning more about the gospel! We also did our clean apartment checks in Lawrence, Kansas. we had 7 apartments to check. We went as KWM cheerleaders this time. I'm still not crazy about dressing with my hair in pigtails and waving pom poms but I try to go along with my two companions. We made up a cheer so that if the apartment had gotten a "Celestial Clean" we would perform it for them. I think most of the Elders and Sisters enjoyed our cheer. Every apartment got a celestial clean this time!

Last week we were snowbound most of the week. We were cautioned on Friday that a storm was coming and to prepare. We had a blizzard all day long on Saturday. We were told that there had been a few accidents involving the young missionaries that no one could drive anymore that day. Well, that lasted for several days! On Sunday we had church on Zoom and our Branch President and his son brought the sacrament to us. It was sooooo cold and snowy outside. We had gotten about 20 inches of snow. That was the most snow at one time in the history of Kansas! When Monday came we got an AMBER ALERT on our phones. It was to tell us to stay off the roads! Most of the highways in eastern Kansas were closed due to the snow and drifting snow. It was pretty bad. Schools and businesses were closed too. We were told to be good citizens and to abide by the request to not drive. So for the 3rd day in a row we were not able to get out. Tuesday came along and we were also cautioned not to drive. Our mission president said that some of you may know how to drive on snowy roads but the people of Kansas don't so only go within 15 minutes of our apartments. We really couldn't go anywhere anyway because our cars were snowed in! We were parked on the street and when the plow plowed the roads the snow went right up against the side of our cars. Not only that, but that was on top of the 20 inches of snow we already had! By Wednesday we had one car dug out. It took us another day and some help from a couple of teens that shoveled our sidewalks to dig out our cars before we were able to actually get out and go anywhere. We were cautioned again that the main roads still had patches that were still snowcovered, so only go within 15 minutes of our apartments. We had DCM Saturday instead of Wednesday since it was the first day of unrestricted travel. It was a great meeting. As we were leaving I met a guy that knew my oldest son and his family. He had played football for BYU and was roommates with my daughter in law's nephew and had been to my son's house many times. It's always nice to meet people who know your family!

The gospel is true! Read the Book of Mormon! My testimony of these two things just seems to keep growing! Jesus is the Christ! Know that through him we can live with Him again!

Love,
Sister Tuha
