Week 55
Hello Everyone!
Time keeps marching on! It's February already! Since I'm the activity person for RS. We planned and activity for Jan 16., a Saturday. It was a Family History Activity. We had a lady in our branch that has been writing in her journals for 50 years! she even makes her own paper and journals. She talked to us about journaling and how important it becomes to our posterity. She has done so many journals. After she spoke to us we broke into 3 groups. One was on journaling, (how to get started, what kind of journal to keep, what to say etc.) Another group was Family Tree. This group had a picture of a tree and they were able to put names on the branches. Once framed, it could be hung on the wall. The last one was on technology. We wanted everyone to have "Family Tree" app on their phone or computer as well as the library app. I was over this group and the little technology I knew was more than most of the sisters there so that was good for me. We had a luncheon after. We had a great turnout! Everyone enjoyed the day! We thought it was very successful.
Since the beginning of my mission here in Hiawatha, Kansas we have been knocking on doors and leaving quotes and scriptures. We have visited every city that has members. All of whom we have visited are not currently active in the church. If they are home, we invite them to church and leave a quote/scripture we had printed on cardstock. Most of the time they say thanks and close the door asap! Every once in a while someone will actually have a short conversation with us. Most of the time they aren't home or don't even answer the door even when we have heard them talking. In either of these cases we leave a quote tucked in the door. If a house looks like no one has been there for a while, we leave a quote, but also when we get home we mail a note to them. We have gotten quite a few letters back from the post office saying they are no longer at that address. This is good to know so that we don't keep knocking on the doors of someone who doesn't live there anymore. We have been to every house in our Branch Directory at least once and some several times. None of these people have ever come to church. Last week I was praying to know if there is another way we should be reaching out to these inactive members, if so what is it, or should we continue to keep on doing what we have been doing. The next day one of my companions got an email from her nephew that answered my prayer. This is what it said:
"Thank you for sharing your knock on less active doors stories. From experience hearing from my less active son on the other side of the door, far more good happens on the other side of the door than they let on when the brief interactions at the door happen. They know they are remembered and still belong even if they are not ready at that moment to take action. I wish more members would have the courage to seek out the less active and knock on their doors more than once even. The repeat return knocks are even more powerful. So from the Dad of a less active son, Thank You for your service and sacrifice. One knock on my son's door by a missionary in Logan , we believe, saved his life. And the missionary never knew of the impact that door visit made until we shared the story of what happened to Connor after the door closed following their very brief visit."
This was the answer to my prayer! Nothing we ever do goes unnoticed. Each act of service is valued by our Heavenly Father. We plan on starting all over again to visit every house in our branch. We will remember the above email as we knock on doors and leave quotes.
We have a baptism coming up on Wednesday evening. We are all so excited! The lady that is getting baptized is the wife of a convert who was baptized around Thanksgiving time. He is the person who will be baptizing her. We are so excited for her! It's amazing the changes that have already taken place in their little family. It's such a miracle to witness!
Our Heavenly Father loves each one of us! He knows us so intimately. He knows what we need. I am so thankful I have this time in my life to devote to service for our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and their children here in Kansas. I have learned and grown so much that wouldn't have happened any other way. I treasure this opportunity to serve the Lord. I know this gospel is true and that Jesus is the Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Because of Him we can live with Him again.
Love,
Sister Tuha
