Week 60
Hi Everyone,
Time goes so fast! I always start with that because it is the truth. I know it's been several weeks since I wrote. Sorry about that! Time just gets away from me. Anyway, besides that, everything is going well. There are only 2 of us now since Sis.Sharp has gone home. SIs. Ward is my only companion now. We get along great. We have found out that we are both from Spanish Fork and live about a mile away from each other. She has extended her mission so that we will be going home at the same time. If she didn't extend her mission, mine might have been cut a little short. The church doesn't like for us to be by ourselves. So, thanks to Sis. Ward for extending her mission about 6 weeks so I can complete mine!
We are still knocking on doors and handing out quotes. We are working on some new ones in hopes that maybe they will touch someone in some way. We had a baptism last month. She was the wife of our convert that was baptized in November. I was able to give a talk at this baptism. The roads were really bad and our RS president was supposed to give a talk. She couldn't come because of the roads. So I was asked if I would give a talk on the Holy Ghost. I felt privileged to do this. A couple of weeks later I was called on a Saturday morning and told that the stake visitors who were supposed to be speaking in church the next day weren't going to be able to be there tomorrow. I was asked to give a talk on missionary work. If I can, and remember, I will attach this talk to this letter. I'm beginning to feel like the replacement speaker!
Last week it was very cold! We had a few inches of snow and a very freezing rain and wind. Our power went off (quite common in storms here) It was off the longest we have experienced since we've been here. It went off about 10:30 at night and came on the next morning around 6:30. Our house is pretty drafty so it was pretty cold when we got up. We did have enough blankets etc to keep us warm. Because of the weather, we couldn't go to Topeka for DCM. We were able to participate via our phones. It was nice we didn't have to go to Topeka today.
Last Saturday we had a list of 7 people that we had decided to visit. We were able to visit with four of the seven, the others weren't home so we left our quotes. This was a very good day! We were almost back to Hiawatha when the name of a sister that we had been trying to visit came to my mind. I asked my companions if they would mind if we went by her house. They didn't mind so we went to her home. We knocked on the door and she answered and invited us in. We were very happy she was willing to visit with us. We gave her a message while we were there. We had a great visit. I'm so glad I listened to the spirit as I was prompted to visit her. The Holy Ghost is always with us as we keep the commandments and always remember him. In the Sacrament prayers we are given this promise. Sometimes we have to listen very carefully and sometimes it is very clear as the Holy Ghost speaks to us. I'm trying hard to remember these times and to write them down so that I will have these experiences to refer to when I need to be strengthened.
My sister Joan and her husband Arnie came to visit me last weekend! It was so wonderful to see them! As you know, when you haven't seen family for a while, it's such a joy to see them. We drove around some of the areas in our branch boundaries. We had dinner that first night in Nebraska. On Saturday morning, Joan, Arnie and Sis. Ward and I went to Wetmore. There was a sister there who was moving and needed help. Joan and Arnie told me that they wanted to experience missionary life. They really got to experience it during the loading up of boxes onto the Uhaul truck. We were there for a couple of hours helping. Their help was much appreciated!! We then drove to Hamilton Missouri to visit the quilt shops there.Joan is a quilter too and since this town is known for their quilting fabrics, many women go there to shop. They also have a men's "waiting area" complete with recliners and TV! Arnie enjoyed his time as we were going through the 19 fabric stores there. We left there and went to Adam Ondi Omen and Far West. We saw the cornerstones of the temple, that is yet to be built, there in Far West Missouri. It was really interesting to see these places. Since we got a late start we weren't able to see a couple of other church history sites that were near there. They were able to attend our little branch and meet some of the people that I had been telling them about. It was a great weekend!
The Gospel is true! Jesus Christ is the founder of our church. He it is that we worship! I know of a surety that He lives and loves each one of us. We each have access to Him through prayer and through reading the scriptures. Read the scriptures, you will find Him! Pray He will hear you. Repent, He will forgive you! He lives and loves us! This I testify to in the name of Jesus Christ Amen.
Love,
Sister Tuha
