Week 5

 Hello Everyone!

Well, another week has come and gone! Time goes so fast when you're busy! This last week we went to our district meeting in Emporia. Our new DL gave us a really good example of how to pray. He said they were teaching a lady who was a smoker. She had been praying that she would quit smoking. She was still having a hard time quitting. So the missionaries said that maybe she needed to be the agent for change instead of just asking the Lord to help her quit. So she decided to tear up her cigarettes and throw them away. After doing this and continuing to ask the Lord to help her quit she was successful! She quit and never even desired to smoke again.  I loved this story because the Lord will help us if we also try to help ourselves.

One day this last week we met Doris, a lady from our branch, and her friend Evelyn for lunch. This was the first time I had eaten out at any place here in Burlington.  What was kind of unique about this lunch was that Doris was originally from Germany, Evelyn from France, my companion from Italy and I got to represent Tonga! It was quite an international lunch.  It was very enjoyable and so interesting as we talked about different things from around the globe. Evelyn is not a member so I think we will plan a few more of these international get-togethers.

Zone conference was this last week! It's always a learning experience! This week we heard not only from President Barr, our mission president, but also from Elder Gimenez of the 70, and his wife. They were both really great speakers. Elder Gimenez taught us that the real teacher is always the Holy Ghost. We can hear with our hearts and see with our soul. We are here because of HIM (Jesus Christ) not because of the church. Everything we do every day is because of  HIM. We do what we do because of HIM.We will be lifelong disciples of Christ because he loves us and we love him. We should be trying to align ourselves with Jesus Christ. When we have Jesus as the center of our lives we can love more and teach better. Our conversion is through HIM. We are the closest some people will ever be to Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon helps us to testify of Christ.

There are many other things I learned that are really hard to put into words, so I will keep those things in my thoughts. One thought I had during this conference was of a lady in our branch that's been having a hard time. I was reminded that she had been given the gift of the Holy Ghost when she was baptized and that we should remind her of this gift. The next day we visited with her and I read a scripture to her (Moroni 10:4-5). We discussed this scripture in relation to her problem. The spirit was there with us. I'm sure she felt it too. She said that she would pray about her problem. We felt good as we left her apartment.

I guess that's about all for this week. I have to give a lesson in RS on the 10th of Marchon Elder Stevenson's talk from this last conference. If any of you have any great ideas sent them on to me!

Love to you all!
Sister Tuha
