Week 4
Hello Everyone!
Can you believe I've been in Kansas for a month already? Time flies when you are busy! We've done a lot of the same things, visiting members and volunteering places. Yesterday was our "P" day. We met two sets of Elders and a set of young Sisters at a pickleball court in Emporia. So we played pickleball for a couple of hours. I had played tennis and ping pong before but not pickleball. It was really fun! I got some good exercise in and I learned the basics of pickleball.
This last week at our District meeting one Elder told of a story where the Elders decided to clean the baptismal font. They thought that if they cleaned it really well and then prayed for someone to get baptized in it that they would be blessed. You guessed it! One of their "friends" (it used to be called investigator) decided to be baptized. So this was the answer to their prayers.
In Church on Sunday, we had a great discussion on reading the scriptures. Our teacher gave an illustration of how we can not only read the words on the page, but to read below the words (learning the culture, traditions etc.) and reading above the words (reading with the Holy Ghost to receive spiritual insight) are three different ways to read scriptures and to understand them better. Not only this, but through reading scriptures three different ways, we can learn the truths of the gospel and be better able to apply them into our everyday lives. I hope that makes sense.
So far I am really enjoying my mission! I have met so many wonderful people and they are always so friendly and welcoming. This last week was transfer week. We got a new Elder here in Burlington but we lost one too. Transfers are good. It's great to see new missionaries come in and sad to see the ones that you have gotten to know leave.
That's it for this week!
Love,
Sister Tuha
