Week 6

A picture of the house I’m living in.  An 1890 special!

 Hi Everyone!

This week started out like most other weeks but it ended up soooooo different.  I got transferred to Hiawatha, Kansas! Hiawatha is about 2.5 hours north of Burlington.  Hiawatha is a nice little town.  The population is about 1000 people less than Burlington. Even though the population is less, it seems bigger because it has more businesses.  It even has a WalMart! There are a lot of smaller towns around here and apparently Hiawatha is the largest of them all.  We have a small branch here. Some members have to drive an hour to church!

We, my new companion Sister Sharp, and I live in a house that was built in 1890. Needless to say it's an old house.  The owner of this house is our branch president. He is in the process of updating and remodeling the house. Most of the construction is done but painting is not. In fact, part of our mission work is to paint the inside of the house! Those of you who know me well, know that this is right up my alley! I am really enjoying patching walls, caulking, taping, and painting walls and ceilings. I never dreamed this would be part of my mission but I am enjoying it so much!

Sister Sharp and I went to an assisted living center this morning.  I read several chapters of Genesis to Wanda.  Wanda is a very sweet lady who is 96 years old. She is number 11 in a family of 13 children.  She has 5 children. I asked her how many grandchildren she had. She said that she couldn't remember how many there were now. She probably has many great and great, great grandchildren as well. It was a very good experience.

We are also in charge of doing a birthday spotlight for the sisters in our branch that have birthdays. There are 5 for March. We visited 3 homes of these sisters. All were very welcoming to us even though they are not active.  We drove 30 minutes to visit one of these sisters.

I must say that I have been very blessed to have Sister Sharp for a companion. She is a very sweet and humble sister. I have learned much from here already. We have a lot in common including each having 8 children. I'm looking forward to getting to know her better.

I have to give a talk on Sunday so I need to prepare for it so I will say goodbye for now.

Love Ya'll,
Sister Tuha
