Week 8

 Hello Everyone!


Well, believe it or not, it's been a whole 2 months since I've been in Kansas! Things are moving along very nicely. We have been working on visiting the inactive members in our branch. We went to Falls City, about 20 miles from Hiawatha, to visit some inactive members there. We went to ten houses and only were able to find people home in three of these homes.  Some of the homes looked like no one had lived there for a very long time, but a lot of houses are like that around here. We left a little bag of candy and an Easter scripture on the door of the houses where no one was home.  At the other three houses we were able to talk to the people there. We invited them to church and one said that her and her daughter would come next week. That's progress! We'll see if they actually make it there! 

We did some more painting and cleaning this week. We have the upstairs finished except for some touch up paint. We also went to an assisted living place and helped with the Easter candy for their Easter egg hunt. We were in Topeka for our district meeting this week again.  It's about an hour away. It was a pretty good meeting.  I collected several pairs of pants to repair for the Elders in our district.

We also went to Wichita for a Senior Missionary get together. There was a dinner and then those who were going home in the next few weeks bore their testimonies.  It was a very spiritual meeting! Our Mission President Barr told of a set of elders who were in a car accident. the car was completely totaled! It had rolled a couple of times.  The missionaries only had a few scratches. Besides the scratches, they were not injured at all.  The Lord protects those who are serving Him. It was a miracle that they didn't have any injuries!.

First Day at the MTC

Mom just finished her first day at the MTC. She said that is definitely a special place. she saw several Tongan elders there (at least she thinks they were Tongan) anyway. She was thinking that just a few weeks ago that would have been her grandson there! She did see her brother’s so, Brandon today! She got to talk to him in the cafeteria for a little while. That was nice for both of them !  She said It was so interesting that their district (9 single sisters) were instructed by a sister who is about 21 years old and has been back from her mission for not quite a year. Mom said she was such a good teacher!    The other instructor was a young man who had just become a father for the first time. He has been teaching at the MTC for 5 or 6 years.  Pretty much ever since he got back from his mission. He was also very good. Mom had their first lessons on Preach my Gospel today. She said it's a very inspired book.  She is looking forward to the devotional tomorrow....

Week 69?

  Hello Everyone! It's been a busy week again! This week we did clean checks again. We have 15 apartments to check in two cities. It usually takes us 2 days to complete them. We also dress up to lighten the anxiety involved in clean checks, both the Elders and Sisters apartments being checked and us checking them. Last time we checked apartments we dressed as bunnies. There were a couple of Elders who didn't have the best attitudes or clean apartments. So, this time before we went out we decided to pray that they would have good attitudes and very clean apartments. We went as referee's and only had to give 2 penalties! A traveling violation (Elders were late getting to their apartment) and a Technical because it caused us to be later for our next appointment. The Elders laughed at our novice attempts to give the right signals for the penalties. Their apartment was very clean! So were all the rest of the apartments we checked! The attitudes were great! Week 2

  Hi Everyone! This last week we did a lot of visiting members.  We are trying to get a list of the inactive members to visit, but our branch clerk/secretary is technology challenged. He's doing his best.... The temperatures here last week were pretty warm. We had one day at 70 degrees. Then this morning I had to scrape ice off my window in order to get to Seminary  at 6:00AM . It's supposed to be in the 50's today. When I was coming home the sun was coming up. It was a beautiful sunrise! The Lord is preparing us for a great day! Today, even though it was "P" day I did a route for Meals on Wheels.  They were short on drivers and called to see if I could help. So I did. I don't mind doing this because I get to know people and I get to know the town of Burlington better. We were studying in 1st Nephi this week and came across one of my favorite scriptures. It's 1Nephi  17:13  "And I will be a light in the wilderness; and I will prepare the way before...
